- Nitrite +ve
- Nitrite -ve, leukocyte +ve
- Nitrite -ve, leukocyte-ve
- UTI -> Treat
- ?UTI -> ?treat, culture
- Not UTI
Diagnostic MC&S results for UTI (2)
- >103 CFU/ml E.coli or S. saprophyticus
- >104 CFU/ml other organisms
*What MC&S results mean contamination?
Mixed growth, squamous epithelium/ mixture of staphs and streps
Management for UTI
nitrofurantoin / trimethoprim / phenytoin/ cephalexin / amoxicillin
3d if uncomplicated; 7d if complicated
Management for clinically unwell pyleonephritis
admit, IV co-amox + gentamycin
