What sort of history may patient with typhoid present with?
Travel to India; transmitted by food and water
Typhoid symptoms
Constipation, rose spots, relative brady
Salmonella typhae syx
Similar to typhoid but diarrhoea w mucus/blood instead of constipation
*Typhoid treatment
IV ceftriaxone then PO azithromycin
Typhoid complication
GI perforation (infection of Peyer’s patches)
What is the pathogen causing Dengue?
RNA flaviviridae virus
What is dengue spread by?
Aedes mosquito
What sort of history may patient with Dengue present with?
South East Asia travel (<21 days ago bc short incubation)
Dengue symptoms
Fever, myalgia, rash
Dengue treatment
self-limiting
Dengue complication
Dengue haemorrhagic fever / Dengue shock syndrome - if infected with a different serotype to what pt had before (rare in travellers)
