Micro 21 - DNA Virus Part 2 Flashcards
What do Human papillomavirus (HPV) Types 1 and 2 cause?
Common warts.
What do Human papillomavirus (HPV) Types 6 and 11 cause?
Genital Warts.
What do Human papillomavirus (HPV) Types 16 and 18 cause?
Invasive cervical cancers. Can cause vulvovaginal, anal penile and head and neck cancers.
What does Adenovirus cause?
A dsDNA virus, it causes URI followed by conjunctivitis. Can also cause febrile pharyngitis, acute hemorrhagic cystitis, pneumonia, diarrhea.
What are the three disease that Poxvirus cause?
Smallpox, cowpox, molluscum contagiosum.
What causes Smallpox?
Caused by enveloped poxvirus variola virus.
What causes Cowpox?
Caused by vaccinia poxvirus. “Milkmaid’s blister”. Provides immunity to smallpox.
What is an important virus inside the Polymavirus and what does it cause?
The JC virus, which causes progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) in HIV patients.
What is the pathophysiology of Hepatitis B virus?
Partially double stranded circular DNA enters nucleus. Host polymerase makes RNA intermediate from DNA. Then the virus uses its viral reverse transciptase to make DNA from RNA intermediate.
What is the only Parvovirus known to infect humans? What does it cause?
The only ssDNA virus, the Parvovirus B19 is the only that infects humans. Causes transient aplastic crisis in sickle cell patients, Erythema infectiosum (fifth disease) in children (slapped cheeked rash), Hydrops fetalis and miscarriage in utero.
Which virus can cause conjunctivitis or diarrhea?
Adenovirus.
Which virus causes enlarged cell with owl’s eye inclusions?
CMV.
Which virus can cause Burkitt lymphoma and nasopharyngeal carcinoma?
EBV.
Which virus causes gingivostomatitis?
HSV-1.
Which virus hides in sensory ganglia of S2 and S3?
HSV2.
