MHC and Transplantation Flashcards
Class 1 MHC
Found on all nucleated cells
HLA-A, HLA-B, HLA-C
Class 2 MHC
Primarily found on B cells, can be induced on T cells
HLA-DR, DQ, DP
Inheritence of MHC
Mendelian-codominant expression
Direct recognition
WBCs of donor migrate into the recipeint where they interact directl with recipeint’s T cells so they can recognise the HLA for donor cells. Occurs immediately on transplantation
Indirect Recognition
Foreign protein is picked up b recipient cells which is broken down by its own immune system, presented to B cells etc.
Sensitisation
Any event which elicits an HLA directed immune response e.g. pregnancy, blood transfusion, transplantation
Hyperacute regection
Activates clotting cascade and complement
