Mendel Genetics Flashcards
What is the most common heritable disorder in humans?
Tooth agenesis (4-7%, if 3rd molars in included=20%)
What are the Three laws of mendelian genetics?
1-Law of Segregation
2-Law of Independent Assortment
3-Law of Dominance
Blood type is a good example of what?
Co-dominance (4 possible genotypes A,B,AB,O)
Snap dragon color is a good example of what?
incomplete dominance (Red or white alleles, two together result in third phenotype, pink)
Calico cats are a good example of what?
Mosaicism (different cells have different genotypes)
If the son is ALWAYS affected the trait is considered to be?
Y-linked trait
If a trait affects 50% sons and 50% daughters it is likely what?
X-linked dominant
If a trait affects only 50% of the sons, daughters unaffected it is likely what?
X-linked recessive (daughters can be carriers but unaffected X dad dominates phenotypically)
