Q

How is RMP maintained?

A

-Pumps and transporters (Na/K ATPase)
- Channels (ligand gated, voltage gated)
- GPCRs

Q

Why is the Na/K ATPase so important?

A
  • membrane very permeable to K so K leaks out
  • this ATPase allows two K in in exchange for three Na out ( therefore more negative inside)
  • key for maintenance of RMP

Q

During depolarization, which channels are open?

A
  • Na Channels, allowing Na into the cell

Q

During repolarization, which channels open and close?

A
  • Na channels close, so no more Na enters cell
  • K+ channels open, allowing K to leave cell to become more negative
