Math Flashcards
What is geometric sequence?
mathematical sequence of non-zero numbers where each term after the first is found by multiplying the previous one by a fixed, non-zero number called the common ratio.
patterns in math sequences
a sequence of numbers that follow a specific rule
finding the slope of a line
divide the rise of the line by its run. slope =(y₂ - y₁)/(x₂ - x₁)
prime number
a whole number greater than 1 that cannot be exactly divided by any whole number other than itself and 1 (e.g. 2, 3, 5, 7, 11).
commutative property
numbers on which we operate can be moved or swapped from their position without making any difference to the answer.
1+2 = 2+1 and 2 x 3 = 3 x 2.
Irrational vs rational numbers
Rational Numbers consist of numbers that are perfect squares such as 4, 9, 16, 25, etc. Irrational Numbers consist of surds such as 2, 3, 5, 7 and so on.
tessetlate
A pattern created with identical shapes which fit together with no gaps
pythagorean theorem
A² + B² = C²
