Open vs closed syllable spelling pattern
An open syllable ends with a vowel sound that is spelled with a single vowel letter (a, e, i, o, or u)
closed syllable has a short vowel ending in a consonant.
CVCC spelling pattern
a letter sequence in English words that follows the order of consonant-vowel-consonant-consonant
