The Healing of a Paralytic
Circumstances in which the miracle occured/What transpired
Jesus returned the Capernaum and people became aware of his presence. Many gathered at His home, so much so that there was no longer any more room for them, not even around the door. Jesus was preaching as four men came, bringing to Him a paralytic. Because it was so crowded, the four men decided to open the roof above Jesus to reach Him, and once they succeeded in doing so, they let down the mat on which the paralytic was lying.
Additional circumstances in which the miracle occured/What transpired
After Christ had healed the man, a group of scribes spoke among themselves, asking why Jesus was speaking like He was able to forgive sins because only God was able to do so. Jesus asked why they were thinking such things and asked the scribes, “Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Rise, pick up your mat and walk’?” (The answer is the former). Jesus then proceeded to instruct the paralytic to rise, pick up his mat, and go home, tasks the paralytic easily performed. Naturally, people were astounded and began glorifying God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this.”
Even more additional circumstances in which the miracle occured/What transpired
It’s important to note that during Christ’s life, the Jews believed that sin and illness were correlated in that if you or your parents had gravely sinned, illness was God’ way of punishing you for your deeds. Thus, Christ’s ability to heal the paralytic established that the man was indeed forgiven of his sins.
Who was being healed?
An unnamed paralytic

Why did Jesus heal him?
