A normal way of teaching by analogy by explaining the new in terms of the old

Why is typology practiced, and why is it important?
It is one of the most important tools for understanding the Old Testament
What is a type?
A person, thing, or action that precedes and prefigures a greater person, thing, or action;

What is an antitype?
The person, thing, or action that is prefigured;

Why is the Blessed Virgin Mary more significant than the Ark of the Covenant?
The Blessed Virgin Mary is more significant because she “housed” God Himself, not just things touched by God
What did the prefix “anti” originally mean?
It originally meant “comparison”
What did St. Augustine say in regards to biblical typology?
“The New Testament lies hidden in the Old, and the Old is unveiled in the New.”
What are the two steps you need to take in order to properly analyze an instance of typology?
- Explain how the two things, persons, or actions are similar and how they can be compared
- Explain how the antitype (the newer one) is more significant than the type
