What is the purpose of the creation story in Genesis?
We don’t truly know how God created everything, but the purpose of the creation story is to explain who created all things (the One True God) and why He created all things
What does “Sabbath”mean?
It is the Jewish term for rest;
Is it associated with covenant;
God rested on the seventh day not because He was tired but because He wanted to build a relationship with His creation
Before God created anything, what was there?

Who are the Fundamentalists?
They read Scripture as it is;
They don’t understand that different authors have different literary techniques and styles
Was Genesis 1 intended to be taken literally?
No, it is not supposed to show how God created;
We’re not so sure
Then, why did the author write Genesis 1 this way?
To reveal a certain salvific truth, which is that there is only one God and He is caring, loving, orderly, and intelligent
What does logos mean?
It’s a Greek word for “word”
What does Genesis 1 tell us about the person of God?
That He is caring, loving, orderly, and intelligent
What does the word “seven” mean to the Jews?
It means “covenant”
What is a covenant?
A mutual relationship between two parties

Light (by separating it from the dark);
Created order and time

The sea and sky (by separating the premordial waters)

Land by separating the water;
