If a pt opts to proceed, what are the criteria for MAID:

A

Be eligible for publicly funded health care
Be at least 18 y/o and capable of making a decision w/ respect to their health (i.e. have capacity)
Have a grevous and irremediable medical condition (illness, disease, disability, NOT mental illness) that is in an advanced state of irreversible decline, and the patient is enduring physical or psychological suffering that is intolerable to them and cannot be relieved under conditions that are considered acceptable.
Make a voluntary request for MAID that is NOT the result of external pressure
Provide informed consent to receive MAID after having been informed of the means that are available to relieve their symptoms including medical diagnosis, available forms of treatment, available options to relieve suffering including palliative care
Consent must be given at the time of request and immediately before MAID unless special circumstances apply
