M4 L5 Flashcards
4 functions of antibodies
1) neutralization
2) opsonization
3) bind complement
4) can cross placenta for maternal antibody transfer
what happens when memory cells die?
lose immunity = get sick
how does the APC cell know what to tell the T cell?
ABC bind to tol like receptors and results in diff types of cytokines secreted = diff cytotoxic T cell subsets
primary lymphoid tissues (2)
bone marrow (B cells) & thymus (T cells)
What happens to T cell function as you age?
it shrinks = T cell production decreases = harder to activate B cells b/c of less T cells
secondary lymphoid tissues (3)
- lymph nodes
- spleen
- peyers patch
peyers patch location
only found in intestines
T or F: memory & naive cells live in different areas
T
where are memory cells found
under skin
naive T & B cells circulate between ( ) via blood
lymph nodes
memory T & B cells circulate from ( ) to ( ) and then drain to nodes
blood, tissues
T or F: lots of diff cells found in lymph node
T
how do things enter vs leave lymph node?
enter- afferent vessel
leave - efferent vessel
when do cells leave the lymph node?
when they are activate
3 mucosal sites
intestine, lung & reproductive
