Lytic Virus Flashcards
1
Q
what are the 4 stages of the Lytic virus life cycle?
A
- Attachment
- Entry
- Replication
- Release
2
Q
For Lytic virus to reproduce they must
A
invade or infect a living host cell
3
Q
What happens during the INFECTION stage of Lytic virus life cycle?
A
(attachment and entry)
FIRST STAGE
1 Virus activated once it comes in CONTACT with correct host cell
- T4 bacteriophage, molecules on its tail fibers attach to surface of a bacterium
- Virus then injects its own DNA into the cell
4
Q
Whats happens during the GROWTH stage of Lytic virus life cycle?
A
SECOND STAGE
- After entering host cell, DNA of virus goes into action
- Most cases, host cell can not tell the difference bet. its own DNA and the virus DNA
- RNA (viral messenger) acts like molecular wreaking crew, shutting down and taking over the infected host cell
5
Q
What happens during the REPLICATION stage of the Lytic virus life cycle?
A
THIRD STAGE
- virus takes over, uses materials of host’s cell to make thousands of copies of its own protein coat and DNA
- Cell host becomes filled with hundreds of viral DNA molecules
EX. T4 bacteriophage infects bacteria in a brief time of only 25 mins.
6
Q
what happens during the REPRODUCTION stage of the Lytic virus life cycle?
A
FOURTH AND LAST STAGE
- New virus particles are assembled
- Infected cells called lyses bursts out
- Hundreds of new virus particles are released that may infect other host cells
- Kills the host cell after it leaves
