lytic cycle Flashcards
attachment
Capsid attached to the receptor
A virus binds to a specific host cell based on the host-specific match between virus surface molecules and host cell receptors.
Penetration
The host cell engulfs the virus or the virus injects its genome into the cytoplasm.
Biosynthesis
New viral components, including the capsid subunits, spikes, and copies of the genome, are synthesized using the host’s ribosomes, enzymes, transfer RNA (tRNA), and energy.
maturation
Viral components are assembled into new viruses.
release
New viruses exit the host cell through lysis or budding in order to infect new host cells.
lysogenic cycle
viruses do not immediately replicate after entry into the host cell
prophage
when a viral DNA becomes latent
latent
the virus remains dormant in the cell without replicating.
