Lymphatic System Flashcards
Where is the lymph cleansed?
lymph nodes
What are the two types of lymphocytes?
T cells & B cells
Which lymphocytic cell manages the immune response?
T cells
What houses and provides proliferation for lymphocytes?
Lymphoid tissue
What are the two main types of lymphoid tissue?
- Diffuse lymphoid tissue
- Lymphoid follicles
What is the function of lymph nodes?
- Filter lymph- macrophages activates (engulf anything that is not supposed to be there)
- Activate immune system (lymphocytes activate and mount/attack antigens)
How does thymus function in childhood?
mature functions of T cells
Does thymus have follicles and what does response mean cell wise?
No follicles
lacks B cells
Where can you find MALT?
- tonsils, Peyer’s patches, appendix
- respiratory system, GI system
What does MALT function as in the body?
Protects the body from pathogens trying to enter the body
What is the function of tonsillar crypts?
trap the bacteria
Where are Peyer’s patches found? What is it’s function?
- small intestine
- destroys bacteria and prevents bacteria from breaching intestinal wall
Which cells do Peyer patches contain?
- B cells
- macrophages
- Dendritic cells
What is the function of the lymphatic system?
returns fluids that leaked from blood vessels back to the blood
What are the three parts of the lymphatic system?
- Lymphatic vessels
- Lymph
- Lymph nodes
