What is the etiology of lupus
It is a type 3 hypersensitivity reaction. Tags the bodies own tissues for destruction by phagocytes and the complement system.
Which tissues are usually destroyed by lupus
️Glomerulus of the kidney, synovial membrane of joints and skin.
What are common musculoskeletal problems with lupus
Immune complexes cause inflammation of the joints and muscle pain an wasting.
What are common skin problems with lupus
Lesions, depigmentation, alopecia, scaling, ulcers in anus mouth and nostrils
What are common urinary problems with lupus
Glomerulonephritis. enlargement of the kidney or liver
What are common blood/immunity problems caused by lupus
Immune mediated hemolytic anemia. Leukopenia and thrombocytopenia
What is the clinical presentation of lupus
Leg shifting and lameness. Can also show signs of anemia such as pale gums, weakness, black tarry stools and bruising. It can also cause skin lesions, anorexia, lethargy and vomiting.

How do you treat lupus
You give immunosuppressive drugs and corticosteroids

Autoimmune disease where the body attacks its own tissue mistaking it for a foreign invader. The body makes antibodies against its own tissue causing acute inflammation

Over 40% of dogs with lupus are dead within a year either by the disease or from a compassionate euthanasia
