what is emphysema
A
it is caused by smoking or air pollution
dirt and bacteria gets trapped in the alveoli damaging its walls and decreasing its surface area making it less efficient for gas exchange

A
this causes an increased mucus production by the epithelium cells which increases the diffusion patway for oxygen
an asthma attack is when the smooth muscle in the bronchioles contract making it hard to breath
