Blood Transfusion and ABO Rhesus System Flashcards
what coats the Erthrocytes
antigen which congtain glycolipids and glycoproteins
what are the surface antigens for the ABO blood group
glycolipids called antigen A and Antigen B
what happens if a person recieves a blood transfussion with unfamiliar antigens
glycoproteins will elicit an immune response as they can serve as antigens
what are all the ABO group blood types and their antigens?
type A blood has type A antigens
type B blood has B antigens
Type AB blood ha A and B antigens
Type O has neithern A or B antigens
what are universal donors
these are people with Type O blood who can donate blood to any blood type
they are able to do this because they have no antigens. this means type O blood will not elicit an immune response when a person with a different blood type recieves it.
what are universal acceptors
people with bllood type AB are considered universal acceptors
this means they can accept blood from any blood type
this is becvause they share the same antigens as blood gtype A and blood type B and blood type O has no antigens so they wont elicit an immune response
what happens if a person with Rh- is exposed to Rh+ blood
this cabn cause a person tom develop anti rh antibodies
this build up of antibodies in te blood causes a reaction which causes the break down of red blood cells and agglutination.
what are the antibodies for each blood type in the ABO blood group
type o blood has A and B antibodies
type AB blood has no antibodies
type A blood has B antigens
type b BLOOD HAS a ANTIGENS
what happens if blood type A and B mix
the antibodies in the plasma bind with the opposing antigens causing coagulation which forms a clot in the kidneys causing kidney failure
what is an antigen
proteins on a cells surface that trigger an immune response
what are antibodies
proteins made by white blood cells in response to an antigen
