Lp 72 Flashcards
Causes of fatigue
- environmental factors
- drug-related incidents
- tx-related causes
- exertion
- psychological factors
-rapid onset
-defined as m fatigue
-relieved by cessation of activity
-serves protective Fxn
-occurs more rapidly in deconditioned mm
Acute fatigue
-insidious onset
-intense
-lasts > 1 month
-cumulative effect- not relieved by activity cessation
-common problem for people w/chronic health problems (disease or tx)
Chronic fatigue
Physical and emotional stress leads to?
Changes in BP
Increase BP d/t prolonged stress leads to?
Hypertension
Increase risk of cardiovascular dysfunction & morbidity
Hypertension
Stress-related hypertension may be controlled by relaxation?
-massage
-yoga/exercise
-meditation
An acute or chronic diffuse pain in different portions of the head, not confined to any nerve distribution area?
Headaches (HA)
*most common headaches
-pn: dull, aching, diffuse, nondescript
-infrequent, episodic or chronic
-unknown mechanisms- many contradictory hypotheses of causes:
*sustained m tension
*jaw dysfunction, stress, anxiety, depression, m stress
*overuse of analgesics or caffeine
Tension HAs
-females > males 3:1
-runs in family 60% have family history
Migraines HAs
4 phases migraine HAs
-prodromal- warning signal
-aura- sensory alterations
-headaches
-postdromal- the aftermath
-pulsing, throbbing, unilateral
-lasts 1-2 day
-aggravated by routine physical activity
-nausea & vomiting
-sensitivity to sound & light
-visual disturbances are common: stars, sparks, flashes of light
-many have prodromal sx’s, ex: fatigue & irritability that precede HA by hours or days
-Movement sensitivity
Migraines w/out aura (85%)
-pulse visual/ neurological sx’s prior to HA
-aura usually develops over 5-20 min. & lasts < 1hr
-migraines can include sx’s of tension HAs or sinus HAs
Migraines w/ aura
Types of aura
-visual
-sensory
-motor
-uncommon
-male > female
-age 20s- 70
-occur in clusters over wks/months, followed by long HA-free periods
-pn: severe, unrelenting, unilateral, around eye/in temporal region, can radiate to ipsilateral trigeminal n
-restlessness, nasal congestion, sweating
Cluster HAs
