Lp 68 Flashcards
-price factor regulating blood Ca
2 mechanisms:
-short term ( absorption from bone)
-log term (increase absorption from intestine & kidney tubules & increase vit.D activation)
PTH
2 mechanisms for depletion of bone Ca2+?
-transport of Ca+2 out of bone
-osteoclastic activity
1st hypothyroidism d/t?
-surgical removal of thyroid/ parathyroids
-idiopathic autoimmune phenomena
-infection
-metastatic tumour
-heavy metal damage
-congenital absence of parathyroid glands
Hypoparathyrodism may progress to?
-laryngeal spasms
-death
-respiratory mm paralysis
Tetany in respiratory mm=
Decrease osteoclastic activity=
Hyposecrtion of PTH can be d/t?
Fatal
Decrease bone remodelling
Rare hereditary condition
Hyperparathyroidism d/t
Tumour
Often asymptomatic
Increase PTH secretion=
In bone weakness
Ex: osteoclast proliferation, honeycomb cavities, weak & brittle bones, bone # is often 1st sx of increase PTH)
Pancreatitis?
Stones in pancreatic ducts
Hypercalciuria?
-decrease urine concentration results in diuresis
-predisposes to kidney stones
