Sur lie

A

“On the lees”. One racking permitted to remove gross lees. Must stay in contact w/ lees after fermentation for winter after harvest, until bottling. Filtration permitted immediately before bottling. Bottling must take place March 1st-June 30th, or Oct. 15th-Nov. 30th following harvest. Must be bottled at winery where made. May not be released before 3rd Thursday in March following harvest.

Gros Plant

A

Folle blanche, country cousin to Muscadet. Aggressively dry and acidic. Grapes tend to rot before they ripen. Outnumbered Muscadet pre-phylloxera. AOC in 2011. May label sur lie.
