lipid absorption & lipid drug absorption Flashcards
What do FABPs bring to where and why?
long chain FAs to SER for triglyceride esterification
Where do short & medium FAs go?
diffuse across enterocyte and enter blood capillaries that supply the portal vein
Where is triglyceride synthetase found?
cytoplasmic membrane of SER
What occurs in the RER at the same time as triglyceride re formation?
formation of primordial lipoproteins
What is core expansion?
primordial lipoproteins fuse with TG droplets at auction of SER and RER
What occurs after core expansion?
chylomicrons enter golgi for packaging into vesicles which are then released into basolateral side of enterocyte
Can chylomicrons enter blood capillaries
no
What are the two main conditions for intestinal lymphatic transport of lipophilic drugs?
drug should associate with chylomicrons in enterocyte
drug has to be co administered with high fat meal or lipid based formulation that contains long chain TGs to FAs
Which vitamins are transported through the lymphatic system?
lipid soluble vitamins A,D,K,E
What are the symptoms of Crohn’s disease?
diarrhoea, abdominal pain, fever and weight loss
What are the 3 ways in which Crohn’s disease effects absorption?
- thickened bowel walk and strictures alter bowel motility
- mucosal lesions lead to changes in intestinal permeability
- bile acid malabsorption and fat maldigestion
What causes celiac disease?
atrophy of small intestinal mucosa caused by hypersensitivity to protein in wheat: gluten
How does AIDs effect the small intestines
damage intestinal mucosa increase permeability
