Linear motion Flashcards
Scalars
> A quantity which has magnitude
(NO direction)
e.g. speed, energy, mass, power, length
Vectors
> A quantity with both direction and magnitude
e.g. velocity, acceleration, displacement, force, weight
Linear motion
The movement of the body in a straight line, where all parts move the same distance, in the same direction, over the same time.
5 factors of linear motion
1) Distance
2) Displacement
3) Speed
4) Velocity
5) Acceleration/deceleration
Distance
The total length covered from a start to finish position, measured in meters.
Displacement
The shortest ‘straight line’ route from a start to finish position, measured in meters.
Speed
The time taken to move a body (part or whole) through a movement over a predetermined distance.
speed- distance/time
(m/s)
Velocity
Speed in a particular direction.
Velocity- displacement/time
(m/s)
Acceleration
Rate of change of velocity
Acceleration -
(final velocity-initial velocity)/time
(m/s^2)
