(Lesson 6) Appendicular Skeleton-Pelvic Girdle/Lower Limbs Flashcards
Os Coxa
The hip bone composed of the ilium, ischium, and pubis
acetabulum
lateral depression of the os coxa which articulates with the head of the femur
obturator foramen of os coxa

anterior superior iliac spine
anterior termination of the iliac crest
anterior inferior iliac spine
process inferior to the anterior superior iliac spine
posterior superior iliac spine
posterior termination of the iliac crest
posterior inferior iliac spine
process inferior to the posterior superior iliac spine, superior to greater sciatic notch
greater sciatic notch of ilium
indentation in ilium. inferior to the posterior inferior iliac spine
articular surface of ilium
region on ilium for articulation with sacrum.
iliac fossa
a depression on medial side of the fan-shaped portion of the ilium
Ischium
posterior and inferior portion of os coxa
Ramus of ischium
flattened part on inferior portion of ischium
ischial spine
process located posterior to the acetabulum.
lesser sciatic notch
notch immediately inferior to ischial spine
ischial tuberosity
inferior roughened surface of the ischium for ligament and muscle attachment.
Pubis
most anterior portion of the os coxa
superior ramus of pubis
flattened superior border of the orbturator foramen
inferior ramus of pubis
flattened medial border of the orbturator foramen
pubic tubercle
anterior prominence superior to the pubis symphysis, lateral end of pubic crest
pubic crest
margin of bone between the pubic tubercles of adjacent pubis bones.
Pubic Symphysis
fibrocartilage disc which jpins the two os coxa anteriorly
Femur
Bone of the upper leg. Thigh.
head of femur
superior rounded portion that forms ball-and-socket joint with the acetabulum
fovea capitis of femur
central depression on the femoral head for a ligamentous attachment to the acetabulum
neck of femur
narrowed part which connects the head to the shaft at a lateral angle
shaft of femur
the diaphysis or femoral body
greater trochanter of femur
large prominence lateral to the femoral head
lesser trochanter of femur
smaller prominence inferior to the head on the medial side of the femur
intertrochanteric crest of femur
region formed posteriorly between the greater and lesser trochanters
intertrochanteric line of femur
region formed anteriorly between the greater and lesser trochanters
gluteal tuberosity of femur
roughened surface adjacent to prolonged lateral ridge of superior linea aspera
linea aspera of femur
rough surface on the posterior side of the femur extending vertically along the shaft
medial condyle of femur
medial knob on the distal end of the femur which forms a hinge joint with the tibia
lateral condyle of femur
lateral knob on the distal end of the femur which forms a hinge joint with the tibia
medial epicondyle of femur
medial elevation on the distal end of the femur superior and medial to the condyle
lateral epicondyle of femur
lateral elevation on the distal end of the femur superior and lateral to the condyle
intercondylar notch of femur
posterior notch located between the condyles
patellar surface of femur
anterior depression between the femoral condyles
Patella
triangular sesamoid bone. Knee cap.
Apex of patella
pointed inferior end
base of patella
superior flat portion of patella
articular facets of patella
depressions which articulate with the femoral condyles.
Tibia
The anteriomedial bone of the lower leg. Shinbone.
Medial Condyle of the Tibia
medial depression on the proximal end of the tibia which articulates with the femur
lateral condyle of the Tibia
lateral depression on the proximal end of the tibia which articulates with the femur
intercondylar eminence of tibia
process between the two condyles
tibial tuberosity
rough surface on the anterior and proximal surface of the tibia
anterior crest of tibia
long vertical ridge on the anterior surface of the tibia
medial malleolus of tibia
distal medial process forming the ankle bulge
fibular notch
lateral notch on the distal end of tibia where the tibia and fibula articulate
fibula
long thin bone lateral and slightly posterior to the tibia. “Pin”
head of fibula
knob at proximal end of fibula
lateral malleolus of fibula
lateral process on the distal end of fibula
tarsus
posterior foot comprised of seven bones
7 bones of tarsus
talus, calcaneus (with tuberosity), navicular, cuboid, lateral cuneiform, intermediate cuneiform, medial cuneiform.
Metatarsus
middle portion of the foot comprised of five bones
Phalanges
four digits, each consisting of proximal, middle, and distal bone. The hallux having only two. total=14-each phalanx has a proximal base and distal head.
