(Lesson 6) Appendicular Skeleton-Pectoral Girdle/Upper Limbs Flashcards
Appendicular Skeleton
Consisting of bones of the pectoral girdle, upper limbs, pelvic girdle, and lower limbs.
Clavicle
Slender curved bone which connects the scapula to the sternum.
Acromial End of Clavicle
most lateral part of the clavicle which forms a joint with the scapula.
Sternal End of Clavicle
most medial part of the clavicle which forms a joint with the sternum.
Conoid tubercle of clavicle.
Prominence on inferior surface of the lateral end.
Scapula
triangular shaped shoulder blade
Spine of scapula
posterior ridge
acromion process
scapular process extending laterally from the spine of the scapula, articulates with the clavicle
Coracoid process
process on the anterior superior side of the scapula near the glenoid cavity extending laterally
Glenoid Cavity
lateral aspect of the scapula which serves as point of articulation with the humerus
supraglenoid tubercle
prominence superior to the glenoid cavity
infraglenoid tubercle
prominence inferior to the glenoid cavity
supraspinous fossa
Depression on the posterior surface of the scapula superior to the spine
infraspinous fossa
depression on the posterior surface of the scapula inferior to the spine
subscapular fossa
depression on the anterior surface of the scapula
suprascapula notch
a notch medial to the coracoid process
superior border
top ridge
superior angle
junction of the superior and medial borders
medial border
vertebral side
inferior angle
junction of the medial and lateral borders
lateral border
axillary side
Humerus
The long bone of the upper arm
Head of humerus
proximal rounded portion which articulates with the glenoid cavity of the scapula
Anatomical Neck of humerus
portion of the humerus immediately inferior to the head.
Greater tubercle of humerus
a process lateral to the humeral head and inferior to the anatomical neck
lesser tubercle of humerus
process anterior to the greater tubercle of the humerus.
intertubercular groove/sulcus of humerus
groove between the greater and lesser tubercles of humerus on anterior side
surgical neck of humerus
tapering region of the humeral shaft inferior to the anatomical neck
deltoid tuberosity of humerus
elevation on lateral side of the humeral shaft for muscle attachment.
medial supracondylar ridge of humerus
smooth prominence located proximal to the medial epicondyle for muscle attachment.
lateral supracondylar ridge of humerus
smooth prominence located proximal to the lateral epicondyle for muscle attachment
capitulum of humerus
lateral condyle on the anterior side of the distal end of the humerus which articulates with the head of the radius.
Trochlea of humerus
medial condyle on the distal end of humerus which articulates with the trochlear notch.
lateral epicondyle of humerus
located on the distal end of the humerus superior to the capitulum.
medial epicondyle of humerus
located on the distal end of humerus superior to the trochlea
coronoid fossa of humerus
located on the anterior side of the distal end of the humerus superior to the trochlea and articulates with the coronoid process of the ulna.
olecrannon fossa of humerus
located on the posterior side of the distal end of the humerus superior to the trochlea and articulates with the olecrannon process of the ulna
Ulna
the medial bone of the forearm. Elbow
Trochlear notch of ulna
half-moon shaped notch which forms a hinge joint with the trochlea of the humerus
coronoid process of ulna
located on the proximal end of the ulna, smaller than and distal to the olecrannon process
olecrannon process of ulna
located on the proximal end of the ulna, larger than and proximal to the coronoid process. ELBOW.
Radial notch of ulna
depression on proximal end of the ulna. Articulates with the head of the radius
interosseous crest of ulna
ridge along the lateral portion of the ulnar shaft that points towards the radius
head of ulna
distal region of the ulna
styloid process of ulna
medial projection at the distal end of the ulna.
Radius
Lateral bone of the forearm
head of radius
knob on the proximal end of the radius
neck of radius
region between head and tuberosity
radial tuberosity
a roughened elevation on the radial shaft. Attachment point for bicep
interosseous crest of radius
ridge along medial portion of the shaft that points towards ulna
ulnar notch of radius
depression on the medial distal end of the radius, articulates with the head of ulna
styloid process of radius
lateral projection at distal end of radius
carpals
consisting of eight wrist bones arranged into two rows of four.
carpal bones
scaphoid, lunate, triquetrum, pisiform (anterior view only), trapezium, trapezoid, capitate, hamate
Metacarpals
five bones forming palm of hand. 1 (thumb) 2,3,4,5
Phalanges
four digits each consisting of proximal, middle, and distal bone, the thumb having only two. total=14. each has proximal base and distal head.
