Lecture 14. A Flashcards
Codominance
A type of inheritance in which heterozygotes fully express both alleles.
Each allele of the gene CODES FOR A slightly DIFFERENT protein
The contributions of both alleles are visible in the phenotype: 2 distinct proteins detected
Incomplete dominance
A type of inheritance in which the heterozygote has a phenotype intermediate to those of the homozygous parents.
pleiotropy
1 gene can affect multiple characters
Epistasis
2 or more genes can affect 1 character
Range of Dominance for 1 GENE?
Complete
Incomplete
Codominance
Complete dominance?
Red (R) dominant to white (r) Phenotypes of (ex) RR, Rr are the same
Incomplete dominance?
Neither allele (CR or CW) is dominant Phenotype homozygote CRCR ǂ heterozygote CRCW or CWCW Heterozygote is intermediate in phenotype
examples of incomplete dominance
hair- straight, wavy, curly
petal color, red, pink, white
codominance vs incomplete dominance
Neither allele (CM or CN) is dominant Phenotype homozygote CMCM ǂ heterozygote CMCN or CNCN codom: The contributions of both alleles are visible in the phenotype. incomplete: (intermediate) Not like co-dominance since don’t have some petals that that are red and others that are white
example of different alleles at one loci?
