Learning Theory Flashcards
What is classical conditioning?
Ivan Pavlov: If you pair a neutral stimuli within an unconditioned stimulus that already causes an unconditioned response, that neutral stimulus may become an unconditioned stimulus that causes a condition response similar to the original unconditioned response.
Do classically conditioned fears respond to logic?
no
Generalization occurs for what purpose?
so similar stimuli can also elicit the response.
How can conditioned behaviors be removed?
Through counter conditioning
What is counter conditioning?
Conditioning response to the negative or feared object
What is operant conditioning?
BF Skinner behavior followed by reinforcement increases chances it will happen again.
What is primary reinforcement?
things that are reinforcing because the organism physiology makes it so.
What is secondary reinforcement?
Things that are reinforcing because they’ve been associated with primary reinforcement.
What is positive behavior reinforcement?
makes behavior more likely when they’re brought to you.
What is negative reinforcement?
makes behavior more likely when they’re removed.
What is shaping?
Reinforcing successively closer approximations of the desired behavior. Widely used in animal training.
What is fixed ratio reinforcement?
after a specific number of responses
What is variable ratio reinforcement?
After an unpredictable number of responses.
What is fixed interval reinforcement?
reinforcing first response after a specific amount of time
What is fixed duration?
engaging the responses at a particular rate for a particular duration.
