What are macrophages?
Large white blood cells that envelope and destroy invaders.
Where do B cells mature and what do they produce?
Mature in the bone marrow and produce antibodies.
What are helper T cells?
They not only help activate B cells to secrete antibodies and macrophages to destroy ingested microbes, but they also help activate cytotoxic T cells to kill infected target cells. Mature in the thymus gland.
What are natural killer cells?
Lyse( excreting acids that damage the cell membrane which results in the explosion of the cell.) foreign substances and rouge walls to destroy them.
How is the immune system affected during short term stress?
Immune functioning rises a bit
How is the immune system affected over long term stress?
Immune functioning drops dramatically
