The guide on planning
Facilites must have a disaster plan
5 types of actions for dealing with disasters
Prevent: steps to avoid or decrease the likelihood of an event (moving animals if basement for flood)
Prepare:planning to handling effects of disasters installing equip. and evac. plans
Respond: Disaster response includes all actions that take place during the actual event, essentially carrying out the steps of the disaster plan
Recover: activities such as making repairs and rebuilding the facility;return to a state of normal activity
Mitigate: actions taken to minimize the after effects of an unexpected event. Purchasing insurance to cover the costs of rebuilding or repairing the facility after a flood or fire and regular back-up of important computer files are examples of actions that help mitigate the effects of a disaster.
