Landing Gear and Brakes Flashcards
What is the meaning of the triangle indications on the ECAM WHEEL page
position and condition of the landing gear as independently detected by each LGCIU
What is the difference in status of the forward sets of triangles vs the rear sets?
Forward - active LGCIU
Rear - standby LGCIU
What indications will you get when the landing gear is down and locked?
1) Forward triangles on the ECAM WHEEL page will be green ‘
2) Three green triangles on the landing gear indicator panel
3) LDG GEAR DN appear in green on the E/WD
What does a red UNLK light on the LDG GEAR panel mean?
a specific gear is NOT being detected as being locked in the selected position
What does a red arrow on the Landing Gear Selector Panel mean?
The aircraft is in the landing configuration (below 750ft RA) AND
The Gear IS NOT down and locked
How does the GRAVITY GEAR EXTN hand crank work?
1) Lift into position, breaking the security safety wire
2) Rotate clockwise 3 turns into the mechanical stop
How is the Brake and Steering Control Unit (BSCU) activated?
place the A/SKID & N/W STRG switch in the ON position
When will nose wheel steering be inhibited and the NW STRG DISC message display on the E/WD section and what colors will you get
1) Inhibited when tow control lever on the nose gear strut has been placed in the tow position AND:
2) Green NW STRG DISC message- both engines shut down
3) Amber NW STRG DISC message - at least one engine running
What are the controls for nose wheel steering
1) Tillers (steering hand wheels on CA and FO side
2) Rudder Pedals
3) Autopilot during auto land
Which hydraulic systems offer Anti Skid braking and under what circumstances
1) Green System - Normal Brakes with Anti Skid
2) Yellow System - Alternate Brakes with Anti Skid
if you have a total BSCU failure or failure of both the green and yellow HYD systems is Alternate Braking available? How? Any limitations?
Yes it is available, through the yellow system accumulator but you will not have antiskid available.
what does the ACCU-PRESS indicator display, what does the Green Band represent?
Displays the yellow system brake accumulator pressure, the green band represents a full charge
What does the BRAKES indicator (pointer) display
Yellow system pressure being applied to the respective brake
What do the Green Arcs represent. Will you get Anti skid protection using the Yellow System accumulator for braking?
Green Arcs represent the safe application pressure range when brakes are being manually applied.
No Anti Skid Protection available
Are the indications on the ACCU PRESS and BRAKES Indicator associated with normal braking or Green Hyd System?
No
Where are brake temp indications found.
ECAM WHEEL PAGE
How are brake temp indications depicted?
1) Green Arc over wheel with hottest brake temp over 100 deg C
2) Amber Arc if the brake temp exceeds 300 deg C
When do the release indicators (Horizontal Green Lines) appear on the ECAM WHEEL page? What do they mean
1) Temporarily when the LG is lowered to indicate that the individual wheel brake is released and anti skid is armed
2) Re-appear after touchdown along with REL display when anti skid is active
What is the minimum ground speed for autobrake activation
72 KTS
When is brake pressure application applied with the Autobrake armed?
LO - 4 seconds after grd spoiler deployment
MED - 2 seconds after grd spoiler deployment
MAX - immediately after grd spoiler deployment
Is MAX Autobrake approved for landing?
No, only for takeoff (RTO)
What does the DECEL (green) indication on the AUTO BRK pb mean
actual deceleration is 80% of the selected rate
What are the indications that the parking brake is being applied?
1) PARK BRK appears in the E/WD memo section
2) ACCU-PRESS/ BRAKES indicator displays approx 2000 psi application pressure on the left and right brakes
What is the source of the application pressure on the ACCU-PRESS/ BRAKES indicator when the parking brake is set?
Active Yellow System or Yellow System Accumulator
