Fuel System Flashcards
How are the aircraft’s fuel tanks configured
1) One tank in each wing divided into an Outer and Inner Cell
2) Center Tank located in the center of the fuselage
What is the fuel capacity when all tanks are full
42,000 lbs
Are the surge tanks displayed on the ECAM fuel page? Where are they located
Located outboard of each outer cell and not displayed on the ECAM fuel page
What is the normal fuel loading sequence. Is the center tank normally filled without filling wing tanks first
1) Outer wing tanks filled to capacity first, followed by inner then center
2) No center tank is not normally filled without first filling wing tanks
What is the max fuel imbalance between the wing tank inner cells
approx 3300 lbs
How many total fuel pumps are there and where are they located?
6 electrically powered total:
- 2 in each wing tank inner cell
- 2 in center tank
If there is fuel in the center tank, what is the normal automatic fuel feed priority if flaps are fully retracted/ extended?
1) Flaps FULLY retracted- Center Fuel is consumed first followed by wing tank fuel
2) Flaps Extended - center pumps automatically shut off per auto logic, allowing wings tank fuel to be consumed
What are pressure reducers, when will they operate and which pumps are equipped with them?
1) Allow center tank pump pressure to preferentially supply the respective engine
2) Operate only when flaps are fully retracted
3) Only the wing tank pumps are equipped with pressure reducers.
What are the functions of the L and R TK PUMPS pbs
1) On (light out) - pump runs continuously until pb is selected off
2) OFF (white) - pump is deactivated and remains off until pb is selected on.
what is going on if you get a LO (amber) indication on the ECAM
Pump is on but pump pressure is low
Are wing tank pumps equipped with automated logic?
No - must always be manually controlled with respective pbs
What are the functions of the MODE SEL pb
1) AUTO (light out) - if CTR TK PUMP pbs IS on (light out), the center tank pumps will be automatically activated and deactivated as required by system logic
2) MAN (white) - auto pump activation/ deactivation logic is off. Center pumps must be manually controlled
What are the ECAM indications when Center Tank fuel is being consumed
1) CTR TK FEEDG appears on the E/WD memo section
2) On the ECAM FUEL page, the center tank pump indications will be inline green
When will the transfer valves from the outer cell automatically open, allowing fuel to gravity feed into the respective inner cell?
When either wing tank inner fuel level reaches approximately 1650lbs
What are the ECAM indications when the transfer valves are open?
1) On the ECAM FUEL page they will appear in the horizontal position
2) OUTR TK FUEL XFRD (green) appears on the E/WD memo section
