  • in bed 3 days
  • 3 weeks off work

how to distinguish between vestibular neuritis and labyrinthitis?

A

Present very similarly:

  • vertigo lasting hours to days
  • tinnitus
  • nausea and vomiting

but

labyrinthitis= louder?= hearing loss!
vestibular neuritis= NO hearing loss

how does menieres present?

A
  • vertigo lasting for hours
  • feeling of fullness in the ear
  • tinnitus
  • sensorineural hearing loss (typically at low frquencies)

what is the diagnostic criteria for vertigo?

A
  • History of recurrent, spontaneous, rotational vertigo with at least 2 episodes > 20 mins (often lasting hours)
  • new tinnitus (or worsening) on affected side
  • aural fullness on affected side
  • documented sensorineural hearing loss on at least one occasion (typiccally struggle to hear low frequencies)
