A
  • sudden short lasting episodes of vertigo associated with looking up, getting up and sudden head movements
  • nausea

what causes BPPV?

A

-when otoconia is displaced from the utricle and into the semicircular canals (usually posterior)

what is the diagnostic test for BPPV?

A
  • Dix Hallpike manoeuvre (move patients head from sitting up to lying down, roughly 20 degrees off bed)
  • positive test if the movement triggers bouts of nystagmus (involuntary eye movement)
