audiometry Flashcards
how is air conduction tested?
using headphones
how is bone conduction tested?
using an oscillator
what does the ‘O’ on an audiometry stand for?
-right air conduction
what does the ‘X’ on the audiometry stand for?
-left air conduction
what does the [ stand for in audiogram?
-bone conduction in right ear
what does the ] stand for on the audiogram?
-bone conduction in the left ear
what does conductive hearing loss suggest?
-hearing loss in the external or middle ear
what does sensorineural hearing loss suggest?
-inner ear hearing loss
what would be classed as normal hearing?
-patient hearing between 0 and 20 dB at the top of the chart
how does sensorineural hearing loss present on an audiogram?
-both the bone conduction and air conduction will be over 20 dB
how does conductive hearing loss present on an audiogram?
- bone conduction will be between 0-20dB
- air conduction will be greater than 20dB
