Q

Serum protein

A

Albumin is a protein made by the liver. A serum albumin test measures the amount of this protein in the clear liquid portion of the blood
The normal range is 3.4 - 5.4 grams per deciliter (g/dL).

Q

urine bililrubin

A

Bilirubin is a yellowish pigment found in bile, a fluid produced by the liver.
Bilirubin is not normally found in the urine
Increased levels of bilirubin in the urine may be due to:
•Biliary tract disease
•Cirrhosis
•Gallstones in the biliary tract
•Hepatitis
•Liver disease
•Tumors of the liver or gallbladder

Q

Ammonia

A

Most ammonia in the body forms when protein is broken down by bacteria in the intestines camera.gif. The liver camera.gif normally converts ammonia into urea, which is then eliminated in urine.
Ammonia levels in the blood rise when the liver is not able to convert ammonia to urea. This may be caused by cirrhosis or severe hepatitis
Do not eat, drink anything other than water, or smoke for 8 hours before having an ammonia blood test.
9.5–49 micrograms per deciliter (mcg/dL)

Q

AST

A

The blood test for aspartate aminotransferase (AST) is usually used to detect liver damage. It is often ordered in conjunction with another liver enzyme, alanine aminotransferase (ALT), or as part of a liver panel to screen for and/or help diagnose liver disorders.
