Lab 1 Review Flashcards
1
Q
does qualitative or quantitative make better scientific question?
A
-quantitative
2
Q
how can you tell if it’s a scientific question?
A
- if its testable/measurable by observations
- CANNOT have “best, better, worse”
- CAN have “less, more”
3
Q
can a hypothesis be a statement or a question?
A
-statement only
4
Q
independent variable and example
A
- thing you’re testing
- “manipulated variable”
- i.e. weight/size of people
5
Q
dependent variable and example
A
- thing you’re measuring
- i.e. height jumped from pole vaulters, rate, speed
6
Q
standardized variable
A
- things within the experiment that have to remain the same btwn all test runs
- i.e. weather, clothing, surface needs to be kept the same throughout the experiment
7
Q
control variable
A
-when one test run of the experiment stays neutral
8
Q
what makes the best sample size?
A
- more diverse (from more than one population)
- inc. amount of individuals
- this makes a more natural variation
