Krafts Meningitis Flashcards
What area does the exudate collect strep pneumonia?
Basal and cortical
What area does the exudate collect with H. Flu, TB, and cryptococcis?
Basal
With what in infection does pus collect in the cisterna magnum?
Streptococcus pneumonia
What happens if you have fast meningitis?
Neutrophils in the wall of vesicles (phlebitis)
Neutrophils of the parenchyma itself (cerebritis)
What happens when exudate gets to a healing stage?
You get a collection of fibrillin which can block CSF
What are some gross findings of TB meningitis?
Acts weird Coats cranial nerves More chronic Basal exudate that obliterates cisterns Rarely you see tuberculomas (collection of TB organisms with granulomas surrounding it)
What does TB exudate look like?
More translucent than other exudate
Cloudy perhaps
Gelatinous
More organized
What are some microscopic findings of TB?
Mononuclear cells in meninges not neutrophils
Granulomas
Obliterative endarteries (TB fills arteries)
Acid fast stains often positive
What is common pathology of viral meningitis?
Aren’t as many gross findings
May be swollen
Maybe mild lymphocytic infiltration of meninges
