Intro To Cranial Nerves Flashcards
What does the trochlear nerve come from?
Dorsal side of the brainstem
Involved in superior oblique
What cranial nerve does not go through processing?
The olfactory nerve goes directly to the olfactory cortex
What is the MLS, medial longitudinal ficiculus?
A group of axons surrounding muscle for eye movements
What do the superior colliculi do?
Visual
What do the inferior colliculi do?
Auditory
What is the attachment for the cerebellum?
The pons
How are sensory and motor oriented on the brainstem?
Sensory is lateral, motor is medial
What does the sulcus limitans do?
Visceral function, separates motor and sensory so both of them.
What is at the base of the pons?
Packing material called reticular formation
Many of the nuclei are here at the base
The reticular formation controls a lot of functions
What does pattern generation and timing and swallowing and gagging?
The reticular formation
Where is the trigeminal nucleus?
Caudal medulla
What is the characteristic of brown sequarde syndrome?
You are cutting the spinal cord
Where does the descending corticospinal tract cross?
The decussation of the pyramids
