Kidney-Glomerulus Flashcards
Give the breakdown of water % in the body.
60% body is water 2/3 of that (40%) is ICF 1/3 (20%) is ECF. 75% of ECF is interstitial 25% of ECF is plasma.
What is the equation for renal clearance?
Cl=UV/P
u-urine conc’n
v-urine rate
p-plasma conc’n
What is the equation for excretion rate?
UV
Which substances estimate GFR?
Inulin and Creatinine (naturally made, but slightly secreted)
GFR=UxV/Px
Which substance estimates renal plasma flow?
PAH. It is fully filtered and secreted. RPF=UpahV/Ppah
What is the equation for filtration fraction? What is the normal %?
20%
FF=GFR/RPF
What is the equation for filtered load?
GFR X Pconc’n
What is the equation for reabsorption and secretion?
Reabsorbed=Filtered-Excreted
Secreted=Excreted-Filtered
Describe glucose reabsorption?
PCT via Na+/glucose co-transporter
When is the kidney’s ability to absorb glucose compromised?
glucose starts to spill into urine ~200mg/dl in plasma
around 350 mg/dl no more can be reabsorbed.
**seen in diabetes.
Describe amino acid reabsorption in the kidney?
Na+ dependent at PCT. transporters for pos, neutral, and neg. charged AA.
What is hartnup disease?
aut recessive don't have neutral AA transporters in PCT and enterocytes Decreased tryptophan in body, can't make niacin (Vit B3) Get pellagra symptoms: Dermatitis Diarrhea Dementia Death
