Stafford and Canary found that marital satisfaction was high in couples who had high levels of equity suggesting that it is an important factor in the matainence of long term relationships.
What did Larsson et al discover regarding inequity?
Larsson et al found that wives are more likely to feel distressed in a relationship while experiencing inequity as it lowers compatibility and intimacy levels. To restore a relationship back to normal, equity must be restored which is one of the key features in the equity theory.
