Q

What did Papez and McClean identify?

A

Papez and MCclean identified the amygdala as a contributor to aggression as it chooses how to assess and respond to environmental threats therefore it can be inferred that its sensitivity relates to how aggressive we are

Q

What did Raine et al discover, how does this support the limbic systems implication in aggression?

A

Raine et el used PET scans in 1997 to look at brains of 41 murderers and compared them to a control of 41 non-murderers and found that the killers had abnormalities in the limbic system, demonstrating that it has an implication in murder as only the ones who showed aggressive behaviour had it

Q

What did the case study of Summer et al show?

A

Summer at al (2007) is a case study of a 14 year old girl who was epliliptic and suffered from violent episodes which was found to be caused by a tumour in her limbic system after an MRI scan. After drug therapy targeted towards this tumour, her aggression decreased suggesting that the tumour in the limbic system was a contributing factor,

Q

What did Ferrari et al find out about neurotransmitters using his rats?

A

Ferrari et al forced his rats to fight for 10 days in a row at the same time and on the 11th recorded their neurotransmitter levels. It was found that the rats had an increased level of dopamine and lower serotonin which correlate to its influence on aggression
It demonstrates how aggression is linked to a
altering brain chemistry

Q

What did Buitarr (2003) find about anti-psychotic drugs and what implication does this have?

A

Buitarr found that antipsychotic drugs reduce dopamine activity in the brain and has been shown to effectively reduce aggressive behaviour in delinquents which demonstrates how dopamine is significant in understanding violent behaviour as it decreases it and this research could be used to develop anti-aggressive drugs for impulsive behaviours

Q

What did Mairead and Dolan et al find about testosterone in male offenders?

A

Mairead and Dolan et al found that there was a correlation between high testosterone levels and aggressive behaviours in a sample of 60 male offenders in UK high security prisons who suffered from personality disorders and had history of impulsive behaviours

Q

What did Brunner et el find out about an MAOA gene and a large dutch family?

A

Brunner et al studied 28 males in a large dutch family and found that they had abnormally low levels of the enzyme coded by the MAOA gene leading to an excess of neurotransmitters which is implicated in their history of impulsive and violent behaviours.

Q

What did Frazzelto et al find out regarding biological aggression and the diathesis stress model?

A

Frezzelto et al (2007) found a correlation between AS aggression and low levels of MAOA gene, but only when experiencing trauma during childhood. They would not show this behaviour if the trauma was missing,

Q

What did Delisi et al find out regarding aggression and violent video games?

A

Delisi et al studied 227 junvenile offenders with a history of aggressive behaviours and found through unstructured interviews and gathering several measures of aggression that aggressive behaviour was significantly correlated to how often they had played and enjoyed violent video games showing a clear link between the two

Q

How did Anderson et al use meta analysis to study media influence on aggression? What did he find?

A

Anderson et al performed a meta analysis on 136 studies regarding the influence of media on aggression comprised of many different techniques. It was discovered that there was a general correlation between exposure to violent video games and aggression without publication bias.

Q

What did Weiz and Earls find out about desensitisation?

A

Showed participants a violent movie with a prolonged and graphic rape scene called Stray dogs and then were made to watch a reenactment of a rape trail.
It was found that male viewers who had watched it had a greater acceptance of rape myths and sexual aggression and felt less sympathy for the victim and were less likely to find defendant guilty.

This was not found with female participants.
