What is the tallit?

A

A prayer shawl made of wool or silk, with long tassels called tzitzit attached to each corner. It is usually white with black or blue stripes.

A

It reminds them they are obeying God’s word when they are wearing it.

What are the tefillin?

A

The tefillin are a pair of black leather boxes (phylacteries) containing passages of scripture, including some of the words of the Shema. One is fastened with leather straps to the center of the forehead. One is wound around the upper arm in line with the heart.

A

A

it is the standing prayer. It is also sometimes called ‘the 18 prayers’. (There are 19 now though). It is prayed in silence whilst facing Jerusalem.
