Why aren’t pictures of prophets or other humans allowed as decorations?
it would be breaking the second commandment to not worship any false idols.
What is the holiest place in the Synagogue?
And why?
The Aaron Hakodesh. It is because it is where the Sacred Torah scrolls are kept and because it represent the original Ark of the Covenant.
What do Jews believe the original Ark of the Covenant was for?
It housed the stone tablets with the ten commandments carved in them. They were originally given to Moses on Mount Sinai by God.
The Ark is whereabouts in the Synagogue Pray Hall?
It is at the front of the Synagogue. This is always facing towards the city where Solomon’s temple once stood.
Why is the Ark reached by climbing up steps?
To remind people that God is above us humans.
What does the Ark look like?
It is an ornamental container or cupboard that houses the handwritten Torah scrolls.
When its not being opened, what is the Aaron Hakodesh covered by?
It is covered by a curtain called the Parochet.

‘He brough the Ark inside the Tabernacle. Then he put up the curtain for screening, and screened off the Ark of the pact - just as the Lord had commanded Moses’
It is an honour to do what with the Ark?
Climb the steps, open the doors and parts the inner curtain so that the Torh scrolls may be removed.
What is the Ner Tamid?
The everlasting light above the Ark. Its never put out.
What does the Ner Tamid represent?
It symbolizes God’s presence.
What is the Bimah?
it is the raised platform which the Torah scrolls are read from.
