- Treatment involves

- Lifestyle changes may be helpful. Regular exercise
- Dietary changes can be helpful. Increasing fiber and avoiding foods/drinks that stimulates intestines may help
- Other possible treatments may include:
- Counseling of cases of anxiety or depression
- Anti-diarrhea if main sx is diarrhea
- Medications to stimulate bowel movements for those with constipation
- Low-dose antidepressants

Alosetron
- MOA: Selective 5-HT3 receptor antagonist
- Indication: Diarrhea IBS in WOMEN who have failed conventional therapy
- Dosage: 0.5-1mg PO BID
- CI: fluvoxamine
- BBW: sever constipation, acute ischemic colitis. D/C immediately if constipate.
- Program: prescribers must be enrolled in the Prescribing Program for Lotronex (PPL). Pt sign a Patient Acknowledgment Form. Pharmacists can only dispense prescription that have PPL sticker. Telephone orders, faxed orders, or computer generated prescriptions are not allowed. Refills are permitted on written prescriptions.

- SEs: #1: diarrhea, abdominal pain
