Q

Permanent Dentition

A

8 incisors, 4 canines, 12 MOLARS (main difference between primary and perm)

Molars are non-succedaneous
3rd molars are highly variable

32 teeth as an adult

Q

A

Spaces between primary teeth. It’s a GOOD thing to have spaces so that there is room for permanent teeth to grow.

38
Incisor functions
Biting and cutting food
39
Canine functions
pierce or tear food
40
Premolars functions (permanent dentition only)
Assist molars in grinding food
41
Molar functions
Grinding food (largest and strongest crowns)
42
Oral divisons
See slide #18
43
Quandrants (4) vs Sextants (6)
See slide #20, ignore circles
44
DAQT
Dentition, Arch, Quadrant, Tooth Type **When you identify a tooth on an exam you MUST use DAQT unless asked for a tooth #** Example: Permanent, Maxillary, Right, Canine
45
Universal Tooth Designation | see slides #23, 24
Primary A-T, Permanent 1-32 Maxillary A-J drop down to Mandible from left K-T Maxillary 1-16 drop down to mandible 17-32 left to right
46
International (ISO) | see slides #23,24
1st digit indicates quadrant, 2nd digit indicates tooth
47
Palmer Method (usually used in ortho) see slides #23,24
Quadrant is indicated by a right angle symbol and number indicates tooth in the quadrant
