Colon
Arteries supplying the GIT
Celiac A
Superior mesenteric A
Inferior mesenteric A
Watershed zones of GI blood supply
Splenic flexure
Rectosigmoid
Poor prognosis factors of ischemic bowel disease
COPD
Symptoms for >2 wks
R sided colonic disease
Terminal ileum, cecum, and R colon appear distended, friable, and congested in premature infant. some submucosal gastric bubbles are present.
Necrotizing enterocolitis
Abdominal x-ray finding in necrotizing enterocolitis
Pneumatosis intestinalis –> gas within the intestinal wall
Thin-walled, dilated, submucosal vessels that develop secondary to persistently elevated venous pressure
Hemorrhoids
Characterized by malformed submucosal and mucosal blood vessels that are dilated and thin walled. Most commonly in cecum or R colon.
Angiodysplasia
Ectatic nests of tortuous veins, venules, and capillaries in the cecum and R colon. Associated with increased risk massive hemorrhage.
Angiodysplasia.
