Inflammation and Repair Flashcards
What can inflammation be defined as
Response of the body to tissue damage
Name 4 different ways an inflammatory response can be induced
Physical injuries, burns, toxic chemicals, bacterial infection
The inflammatory response is
natural response to maintain homeostasis
What 3 things does the inflammatory response do
remove the injuring agent, prevent spread of further damage and repair the barrier (healing/tissue repair)
Name 3 events that characterise acute and chronic inflammations
vasodilation, diapedesis, inflammatory mediator production and release
Describe vasodilation
changes in diameter and permeability of blood vessels
Describe diapedesis
emigration of WBCs from blood to surrounding tissues
Describe inflammatory mediator production and release
chemotactic factors attract WBCs (chemotaxis), histamine
