INFARCTION Flashcards
is an area of coagulative necrosis caused by ischemia and is due to obstruction of the blood supply following thrombosis or embolism.
INFARCT
this process is called?
infarction
cells and tissues most susceptible to infarction are those biologically active
cells that include the:
▪ brain,
▪ renal tubular epithelia,
▪ heart muscles, and
▪ most parenchymal tissues.
Mesenchymal tissues such as________are resistant to infarction such that the
stromal support of infracted tissues survives
FIBROBLAST
is considered one of the “silent” killers of humans.
MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION
– the artery ramifies into smaller
branches as it ends. Organs supplied by this type of arterial tree include
the kidneys, heart muscles, brain and spleen, and are the organs where
infarction is commonly seen
Functional End-Artery (single vessel)
there are separate blood supply that often has several
functional anastomotic channels. Organs supplied by this type include
skeletal muscles, and most tubular organs (intestines, uterus, etc.).
Parallel System
In some organs, there are two separate blood
supply originating from different points. This includes the lungs (pulmonary
artery and bronchial artery), and the liver (hepatic artery and portal vein).
Thus, pulmonary and hepatic infarctions are rarely seen, although they
may occur in association with chronic passive venous congestion in which
the dual blood supply is compromised.
