CLASSIFICATION OF THROMBI Flashcards
THROMBI Based on location:
o Cardiac thrombi
o Arterial thrombi
o Venous thrombi
o Lymphatic thrombi
o Capillary thrombi or hyaline thrombi
– attached to the endocardial wall of heart
MURAL THROMBI
-attached to the valves of the heart
VALVULAR THROMBI
blocks the entire lumen of the blood vessel
OCCLUDING THROMBI
allows partial flow of blood
CANALIZED THROMBI
straddles the bifurcation of blood vessel
SADDLE THROMBI
trailing thrombi with one end attached and
the other freely moving.
OBTURATING THROMBI
thrombi that contains bacteria
SEPTIC THROMBI
Thrombi that’s no pathogenic agent present
ASEPTEC THROMBI
Thrombi that contains parasites such as filarial worms
PARASITIC THROMBI
This thrombi is characterized as pale gray-tan mass, rapidly flowing of red blood cells , consisting of concenteric layers.
ARTERIAL THROMBI
Thrombi are classified based on
- location in the blood vascular system
- content of pathogenic agent
- color
this type of thrombi resembles intravascular clots of whole blood due to SLOW BLOOD FLOW. It’s :
DARK RED, MOIST, GELATENOUS, easier to DISLODGE
VENOUS THROMBI
the thrombi become larger and larger eventually obstructing
the lumen of the blood vessel where they are formed.
PROPAGATION
lysis of the thrombi by plasma-derived
fibrinolytic system or through slow phagocytosis by phagocytic cells.
DISSULUTION OF FIBROLYSIS
– portions of the thrombi break and
are carried into the circulation
FRAGMENTATION TO FORM THROMBO-EMBOLI
invasion and growth of fibrous tissue could
happen, along with recanalization and restoration of blood flow.
FIBROUS TISSUE ORGANIZATION
In cats, thromboses at the distal aorta are the usual cause?
HIND LIMB PARALYSIS
In horses, thrombosis of the cranial mesenteric arteries is
usually seen in?
STRONGILE INFECTION
a normal component of serum, and is activated during stress, infection or shock, as
well as being released from injured tissue.
PLASMINOGEN
